I’ve just got a few posts left before the end of the year! I can’t believe in just a few weeks time we’ll be in 2021…this year has been absolutely crazy.

With a pretty weird year behind me, I haven’t been able to blog as much as I’d like to, especially over the last few months. I’d like to sit here and say that I’m going to be back on top form for next year – and I’m excited to take some time out over Christmas to plan content and get ahead of it all – but I’m not making any promises.

So this is just a pre-warning that after this week – like previous years – I won’t be blogging over the Christmas season (unless something comes up!), but I’ll be back blogging come January.

Since I love a good old quiz, I decided to do Jordanne’s Big Christmas Questionnaire! Make sure you head over to her amazing blog to read her answers and do the quiz yourself. Like Jordanne, I don’t have a lot of motivation for festive content to blog about right now, because I’m focusing on next year’s posts instead! So I thought this quiz would be really fun to do.

Anyway, onto the quiz..!

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
There are so many things I love about Christmas: it’s my favourite time of year! I love the festivities and getting into the Christmas spirit, particularly those few days in the run-up to the big day (especially as one of those days is my birthday!). But my favourite part must be spending time with family. I’ve always loved spending time with family over Christmas of course, but in recent years and since losing my mum I’ve managed to appreciate it more. We’ve also got my little niece in the family now too, so seeing her opening her presents brings that Christmas magic back a little bit too.

Do you have a favourite festive scent?
There’s not a particular scent I love, just the smells of Christmas overall like Gingerbread candles or my Dad’s Christmas dinner cooking!

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
This is so hard, I have so many! I really love It’s a Wonderful Life as it’s my dad’s favourite movie and we try and watch it every year. It’s a really lovely movie but I love it all the more because it reminds me of my dad. The same applies to Home Alone, which was one of my mum’s favourite movies and I always remember particular scenes that made her cry with laughter. Personally, I love The Nightmare Before Christmas (for obvious reasons), Jingle All The Way (a favourite since I was young and again, has great memories behind) and The Grinch. The Grinch is just straight-up hilarious and has me laughing so much every single time.

Do you have a Christmas eve tradition?
Not really! I do always leave milk and cookies out most years when I remember though, not necessarily because I believe in Santa, but it’s just something I’ve always done, haha! Kind of along the same lines of when I sleep with teddies on my bed, I need to have them all on my bed, just in case there’s one tiny slither of magic I don’t know about and may be offending one of them, hahahaha.

What’s your favourite Christmas memory?
I have lots. My parents were always so great at making Christmas really magical. They once took me to Disneyland Paris when I was younger as a surprise and it was in the run-up to Christmas so that was really magical. My mum, sister and I also went to Bruges one Christmas for a girly weekend away and absolutely loved it. Christmas was also mum’s favourite time of year. I feel so lucky that I have memories from that trip so fresh in my mind still. I think one of my all-time favourites though was when I was away at uni and came home for Christmas. I can’t remember what year it was, but I was so excited to come home to my family for the festive season. I walked into the house and it was like a winter wonderland as mum always went over the top with Christmas decorations. It was the perfect welcome home!

What’s the most memorable present you’ve ever received?
This is a hard one to answer as I’ve had so many amazing gifts over the years. My sister took me to Paris for NYE as a joint birthday and Christmas gift once though and that was amazing. It was so much fun but also such a thoughtful gift!

How long before the 25th do you put presents under the tree?
Whenever I get around to wrapping them all! This is usually a week or two before the big day.

Who did you spend your last Christmas with?
Last year I was still living at Dad’s, so I spent it with him, his partner and her family on the day, with my sister’s family coming down for Boxing Day.

Did you send Santa letters when you were a child?
You know what, I don’t think I ever did! At least I don’t remember doing so. I’m sure I wrote some at school at some point though.

Have you ever re-gifted a Christmas present?
Maybe just generic gifts from extended family, just because I never have the room for things and would rather give them to someone who likes them rather than the gifts just sitting in my room gathering dust. But most of my family are pretty good at getting me gifts I like to be honest!

Do you have a favourite Christmas decoration?
I used to have a really ugly (but funny) troll Christmas tree decoration – my sister and I bought matching ones in Bruges, much to mum’s dismay! She hated them but I insisted always hanging mine on the tree. In recent years, it’s been lost, which is a shame as we bought them on that really special holiday with my mum..but its an excuse to go back to Bruges to get a new one at least!

What does your dream Christmas morning look like?
It sounds quite silly, but probably Christmas morning like I used to have when I was younger, with my mum still around. But I’d like my boyfriend there too! I think as this is my first Christmas actually not at my childhood home, I’m missing that a little bit.

Do you prefer the starter or dessert at Christmas dinner?
Starter! I’m not a dessert lover. I’m not really a fan of prawn cocktails, so usually, I end up with pate on some nice sourdough toast or something, which suits me just fine!

If you could invite 3 people to Christmas dinner, living or dead, who would it be and why?
My mum, my papa Roy and my dog, Jasper. I’ve lost them all in somewhat recent years and would do anything for another Christmas with them. I know Jasper isn’t a ‘person’, but I don’t care, I’m including him anyway, haha.

What age were you when you discovered Santa wasn’t real?
I don’t know! I don’t think I was ever told. It was probably some stupid way by watching Ren & Stimpy or something, haha.

There we have it: The Big Christmas Questionnaire that got me reminiscing all about how much I love Christmas! Although the festive feeling has been creeping up on me for a few weeks now, completing this quiz (whilst watching The Holiday!) made me feel super Christmassy.

If you want to take part in this quiz yourself, you can find it on The Life Of A Glasgow Girl here. And don’t forget to let me (and her!) know if you do!
