Why You Should Check out Travello – The Social Networking App for Travellers

Louise sits in the middle of an empty desert road with their arms outstretched. The vast landscape features rocky terrain on both sides, evoking a sense of endless adventure. The sky above is clear blue with multiple contrails visible, as if guiding the way for future Travello journeys.

Late last year, I stumbled across Travello – a social networking app for travellers. I loved the look of the app so downloaded it and have been using it ever since. So I wanted to share my experience with the app today.

The Travello app is basically a travel networking app. It’s a mixture of Facebook, Bumble (for friends) and TripAdvisor. You can use the app for three things: making friends/plans when travelling, sharing your experiences or booking experiences in-app. Or all three!

On the homepage, there’s a little running feed of your friend’s whereabouts or travellers nearby. This is often accompanied with check in’s and photos where you can comment, like or reply. There’s an explore page where you can find like-minded travellers who are nearby. Plus groups to join based on your interests or even meet-ups arranged by others.

You can curate your profile like a shiny Instagram featuring just travel posts but mini blog posts too. Use the app to list trips you’ve taken or have coming up, and then under an activity tab, you get creative with updates of what you’re up to or where you’ve been. You can check into places and share wonderful photographs or share tips here too! This is probably my favourite part of the app. I love sharing little bite-sized updates you can make whilst on the move. You can then look back on these later and enjoy the memories!

Here’s the other fun part: there’s also a points tab. Here you can earn points based on your status and your activity. The more comments and likes you get on your posts, the more your points grow. And points are gained so easily! I’ve only posted on the app a handful of times so far and have already got 1600 points (including my 500 points welcome bonus). I can’t imagine how quickly you can rack up these points if you travel and post regularly.

A flat lay photo featuring a smartphone displaying the Travello app's social media profile, a green pouch with Capricorn constellation embroidery, and two open books with scenic desert images and inspirational quotes. A polaroid photo with "NEVER STOP WONDERING, NEVER STOP WANDERING" is also visible.

There is a difference between status points and reward points. As far as I’m aware, status points cannot be used against experiences, but you can gain some reward points for things like getting 10+ likes on your first post. It is a little confusing, but as of yet, I don’t quite know what status points do, other than moving you from a rookie to a nomad and eventually a guru. Perhaps you get exclusive offers depending on what status you reach?

You can also gain reward points through experiences you book – kind of like an in-app cashback.

The points can then be converted to money to be spent in-app on different experiences. My points currently convert to £11.72. I can put these points towards a ‘View from The Shard’ ticket, which will then cost me only £12.87. This is just an experience that has come up locally, but you can explore experiences for upcoming trips too.

I looked at some experiences in Bali for inspiration/out of curiosity. There are tons of super cheap experiences, like an Essence of Bali Temple Blessing Tour for just £16.78 when using my points.

I haven’t yet used the app to make friends or plans whilst travelling. But I’m sure this is something I’ll take advantage of in the near future. If you’re a solo traveller, it’s a great way to meet other travellers (although, of course, do stay safe and be careful!).

Even when I’m not travelling or don’t have any trips booked, I often find myself scrolling through to see what other people are up to or to share past experiences from my travels.
