My 2019 Travel Plans

24/01/2019
A black letter board with the text "HEY 2019 - TRAVEL MORE - SPEND LESS - BE HAPPY" leans against a pink wall. In front, a white frame showcases a travel-themed background adorned with various currencies, including a 20-pound note and a one dollar bill.

I originally posted this back in October 2018. This was when we were slap bang in the middle of a cold winter and the only thing getting me through was thinking of warmer days, relaxing holidays and my 2019 travel plans. However, things change. Holidays get booked and, looking back, let’s face it, I’m not really likely to take a relaxing holiday!

Now that we’ve got Christmas out of the way and we’re well into the new year, I thought a re-jig of this post would be ideal to share my travel plans for this year.

Here’s what 2019 (hopefully) has in store for me!

Lisbon, Portugal

I’m still planning to head to Lisbon, but I don’t quite know when yet. Originally I planned to go in March to coincide with the twenty one pilots tour. But then I got tickets for their London date too and figured maybe it would be cheaper to sell those tickets and stick with the London date. Then head to Portugal later in the year instead. I have always wanted to visit Lisbon (and I spent time in Portugal briefly in 2018 with work), so I don’t want to keep putting it off as it’s such a beautiful and vibrant place. However, the main reason I am (probably) pushing it back is because…

America’s West Coast

Oh yes, I am finally getting to America! My bestie is currently spending six months travelling and somehow talked me into buying flights and agreeing to meet her in America. This is the type of trip I’ve wanted to take my entire life. I knew it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I’ll be flying out and meeting my friend in LA! During our time there, we’ll be spending a day in Mexico and a couple of nights in Vegas (VEGAS BABY!). Any bets I accidentally come back a married woman? We’re also visiting LA and Universal Studios and, finally to end the trip, we’ll be renting a car and driving the West Coast. The plan is to visit quirky road trip attractions and hopefully find time to visit Yosemite.

I’ve also allowed her to go ahead and book whatever the hell she wants. This means so far we’ve also got a helicopter ride and party limo in Vegas and VIP seats at a Magic Mike-esque strip show. But hey, you’re only young once, right?!

Trek America Mountie Tour, Canada

I am a big fan of Trek America tours – despite having only gone on one last year. I’ve been looking for an excuse to go on another ever since. I have always liked the look of Canada with its stunning scenery and beautiful mountains and lakes. Plus, let’s not forget the actual Lake Louise! The more I look at it, the more I’m drawn to it. So I’m going to aim to save up and do this tour late this year. If I can get the time off work.

Romania

I’ve wanted to visit Romania again for a while now. But I was kind of put off the idea because of the big break-up and was worried I’d find it too upsetting. Then I found out my ex took his new girlfriend back to Romania on the exact same trip/road trip we went on to all the places we went to then decided I didn’t give a sh*t anymore if he didn’t (#sorrynotsorry). So now I’d like to go back and re-create my own memories that don’t remind me of him. I mentioned in a recent blog post that I love the sound of The Dracula Experience tour with Untravelled Paths. But I also really, really want to go to Untold Festival and Electric Castle Festival. So maybe I’ll combine the tour with a music festival in the summer.

Edinburgh, Scotland

I say this every year, but I really just want to meet a nice boy and celebrate NYE with him (and friends) in Edinburgh because it’s meant to be one of the most amazing places to celebrate NYE. The street parties look amazing, plus there’s so much to do in Edinburgh anyway, from the castle and the quirky Camera Obscura museum to the many, many pubs. A Christmas or new year trip here would be terribly romantic.

Somewhere Else?

It’s also my 30th this year! But being that my birthday falls two days before Christmas I don’t know if I’ll be celebrating with a holiday this year or next. I am spoilt for choice but some ideas I have in mind are: heading to Liverpool to stay at Signature Living and have a giant party, participating in The Rickshaw Run, heading back to Amsterdam for a long weekend of partying (and saying goodbye to my youth!)..or maybe just pack it all in and travel full time 😉

Now that I am in a stable job, I can really take the time to save for not only travelling but my future in general too. When I first put this post together, it was all wishful thinking. Now I know that with some careful planning, I can make any of these trips into a reality!

What are your 2019 travel plans? Let me know!
