Killing Eve, Legion & The Witch - three out of 4 movies and shows I'm finally getting into

Whilst I consider myself to be quite on the ball when it comes to entertainment, I do have one weakness when it comes to TV shows and movies: if it’s popular or recommended to me a lot, I tend to stay away!

I think I prefer to discover things in my own time and if I see something advertised too much on TV or hyped up too much on social media, I get annoyed hearing about it or feel that by the time I sit down to watch it, it’ll be too overhyped for me to enjoy.

Luckily in recent years, I’ve learned to listen to recommendations (for the most part) and now make lists of TV shows or movies I really need to watch. I find this list especially useful when I’m at home during lockdown and can’t find anything to watch on Netflix or otherwise. Rather than scrolling through for something when I don’t know what I’m in the mood for, I just pick something from my list!

So I thought I’d share some productions I’m really late to watching but have finally enjoyed!

Killing Eve, Legion & The Witch - three out of 4 movies and shows I'm finally getting into

KILLING EVE

I really have no idea why it took me so long to start watching Killing Eve but as soon as I watched the first scene I was hooked. Plus, I had no idea it was produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge who also created and starred in Fleabag which I absolutely loved! Despite the fact that the show is essentially about a psychopathic assassin and an intelligence investigator, I’ve found both characters are very relateable. It’s also got me so very tempted to look into becoming an FBI agent once more, thanks to my true crime obsession! One upside to being late to the party for this show is that I’ve got three seasons to catch up on and binge, thank god.

THE WITCH

I know it’s not Halloween just yet, but my boyfriend and I have been making our way through lists of horror movies everyone should see at least once. We first watched The Blair Witch Project (as I was absolutely shook he hadn’t already seen it!), before watching The Witch. I had seen parts of it before but hadn’t thought much of it as I wasn’t paying attention at the time. This time around, now that I paid enough attention to actually understand it, I loved it! I finally got just how scary it was and realized how amazing Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Ineson’s performances are! Who is Ralph Ineson you’re probably wondering? Ralph Inseson is one of those actors who crop up in lots of different productions and then you suddenly realize you’ve seen him in so many films like Harry Potter and some of the best Hollywood like The Witch, Intruders and the upcoming Brahms: The Boy II. Which brings me to my next series…

CHERNOBYL

He also stars in Chernobyl, another show I am very late to watching. In actual fact, I watched the first episode way back when it first came out, as I’m absolutely fascinated by the Chernobyl disaster. But my mistake here was watching the episode late at night – I fell asleep, tried again the following night and just couldn’t get into it. So now that a few months have passed, I’ve tried again and ended up watching three episodes back to back. It’s not what I expected, but it’s still worth a watch – whether you’re interested in the history of Chernobyl or not: it’s still fascinating either way.

LEGION

I’m cheating a little with this entry as I actually watched Legion a few years ago now but for some reason never watched past the first season. I knew my boyfriend would love it though so we’ve begun to watch it – and I’m glad because I do find it a little hard to understand, so a second viewing has helped! I absolutely love this show – Dan Stevens is amazing in it and I also think the entire show is so well done. If you haven’t seen this yet, definitely check it out.

HARRY POTTER

And last but not least…Harry Potter. In all honesty, I’ve always been a fan of the Harry Potter films (though I do prefer the books), but the reason why I’m including this one is because I’ve never actually sat down and watched them all properly or in order. I’ve always wanted to do a marathon ‘one day’ and finally made a start during lockdown. Although we didn’t watch them in one sitting, we’ve been watching one film each week and it’s certainly reminded me of how great they are, once you actually sit down and allow yourself to be sucked into the magic. And, imagine my surprise when Ralph Ineson popped up yet again as Death Eater Amycus Carrow! Does this man’s talents never end?! He’s fast becoming my favourite actor as a) I’ve seen him in such a varied range of roles lately and b) I’m suddenly realising just how many productions he’s starred in.

These are just five movies and shows I’m finally getting into and enjoying, but the to-watch list is so long! I still need to finish Supernatural and New Girl. I finally finished The Vampire Diaries earlier this year too and although it dragged a little in the later seasons, the last episode had me crying like a baby. Seriously. I was still upset hours later!

Are there any movies or shows you can recommend that are worth pushing through with to watch? Let me know!
