If you’re working from home or furloughed at the moment, it can be tough to find the motivation to work out – especially if you’re used to going to the gym or having personal training sessions. Luckily we can still leave the house once a day for a walk or exercise, but I’m writing this post to remind you that we can all still have lots of lockdown fitness fun during this time.
It may be tempting to think our choices are limited to going for a run or just doing some cardio via YouTube videos at home – and although it’s great having unlimited choice on YouTube at the moment – there’s still fun workouts you can do!

BURLESQUE
Okay, bear with me. Burlesque may seem like one of the hardest things to do whilst social distancing, especially when you imagine burlesque to be very sexy; dolled up to the nines and dancing very close to other dancers. However, I’ve found that once you get past the weirdness of the situation, taking a burlesque class at home is just as fun! You can still dress up if you want to (even if you’re surrounded by a messy home!), and the teacher will adjust the routine to make it that bit easier for the situation at hand. Plus if you’ve always wanted to try it but have been too scared, now is the best time to give it a go in the comfort of your own home. I take burlesque classes with MyBurlesque which is run by the very lovely Micaela – and I’ve mentioned before just how fun her classes are. Burlesque is especially fun to take during this time – it’s an excuse to get dressed up (after living in sweats all week) and start to love your body again. It’s a great confidence boost too. You can read my personal experience of starting Burlesque classes here.
30 DAY YOGA CHALLENGE
Yoga is one of my favourite ways to work out. It helps set me up for the day and although it isn’t a traditional workout, it still does wonders for your body. I have dabbled in and out of yoga for a fair few years now but recently decided now was the perfect time to stick with it – so I’ve begun 30 Days of Yoga With Adriene of course! I really love how laid back she is and how the videos aren’t too overbearing – they’re just short enough that it doesn’t take up too much of your day but long enough to make a difference. The only thing I would say is don’t beat yourself up if you don’t do it every single day. I did try at first, but I can’t get myself in the right relaxing mood every morning, especially when my boyfriend is home (not that he stresses me out, I just like to either do it entirely alone or have him join in else I get a bit self-conscious as I’m such a newbie!). I now tend to do it every other day or three days in a row then take a break – I think it’s more important to actually enjoy it mentally and help rest your mind than force yourself to do it every single day.
RUNNING WITH THE ZOMBIES, RUN APP
Technically you have to leave the house for this, but since we’re allowed to leave the house once a day for exercise, why not make it fun? It can be tempting to push yourself to suddenly start running just to enjoy being able to go outside again – I know I’ve felt that way. But I don’t really like running. However, I do enjoy jogging/slowly working my way up to enjoying running thanks to this app. I talk about Zombies, Run a lot but it’s so awesome that I don’t care. Zombies, Run is the only app that gets me running. As you run, you listen to this app (which broadcasts in between songs) and the story of being in a zombie apocalypse unfolds around you. It’s super immersive – you can run, jog or walk, and you can also allow occasional zombie chases which will encourage you to push yourself/go faster for a brief amount of time. You also pick up supplies during each run and you can use these to expand your base in-app. It’s really, really fun. They also have a Zombies, Run! 5k Training app and an app just for walking (although this one follows a different storyline that isn’t related to zombies).
BROADWAY BOOGIE
Broadway Boogie is a brand new class I just tried this week with CAsh Fitness – and I loved it so much that I was inspired to write a post all about lockdown fitness. It’s a short 45-minute class (via Zoom) which entails dancing along to all the best Broadway shows, from Grease to Rock Of Ages. There’s something for everyone and it’s one of those classes that is so full of dance that you don’t even realize you’re working out. But it works – I’m still aching a couple of days later!
30 DAY SQUAT CHALLENGE
Finally, a 30 Day Squat Challenge app is one of the simplest ways to keep fit (or at least get a decent ass during these uncertain times). Simply follow the app and do squats each day (increasing as you go along) for 30 days. Some apps include other simple moves later on like planks and lunges, but I enjoy the fact that it’s really easy moves you can just do at home (and reference via the app to make sure you’re doing it right). There are so many apps you can choose from and some also have other challenge apps too, like 30 day ab challenge etc.
What classes are you taking to ensure lockdown fitness fun? Let me know!
