My boyfriend and I recently renewed his car insurance policy as I was being put onto the insurance too, and, luckily, I was around to help him keep some tips in mind to save money like shop around, consider if it’s worth getting a cheaper car etc. It turns out, adding me onto his insurance actually made things cheaper overall for us both (as is sharing a car – also better for the environment!) which I was pretty pleased about. During this current time, saving money is super important (although you should always keep tips like this in mind!), so I wanted to share a collaborative post with tips on how to choose the best car insurance policy!
As gas prices go up, it has never been more expensive to own a car. As a result of this, more and more of us are trying to be smarter when it comes to the costs involved with ownership. One of the easiest ways to cut costs is to find the best deal on your car insurance policy. Car insurance is extremely important, and if you ever have an accident that isn’t your fault, you may need insurance to cover your legal costs in case of a full or limited tort. (For more information on limited vs full torts, head to this website).
Here are some tips for lowering your annual insurance rates.

ANNUAL CHECK
Every year, when it comes to renewal, make sure you shop around. If you allow your current insurer to auto-renew your policy, you may end up losing out on the chance at a better deal. There are lots of online comparison websites to help you find the best deal; for the sake of 5-10 minutes of research, you could save yourself hundreds of dollars.
USE A QUALITY INSURER
Although premium insurance companies tend to cost a little bit more, the quality of their services are miles apart from the budget suppliers. If you ever need to claim, or god forbid, someone needs to claim off you, you want a good insurance team behind you.
KEEP YOUR DATA UP TO DATE
If you have gone from a high mileage job to a role that requires a relatively small journey, you could save a handful of cash by updating your mileage. By driving less, your premiums usually come down dramatically.
GET THE RIGHT CAR
The cost of repairs has a massive impact on the amount in which your premiums increase every year. Choosing the right car can save you an absolute fortune in this regard. When you are on the market for a new vehicle, make sure you check the car’s insurance rating. Every good dealer will have this information stored inside a handbook.
MAKE USE OF POTENTIAL DISCOUNTS
There are lots of ways that insurance companies offer discounts to their customers. Paying attention to what discounts you can apply for could save you a decent wedge of cash. Some discounts that are commonly offered include things like the age of the driver, drivers who have taken extra safety courses, and the installation of anti-theft devices to your car.
PAY ATTENTION TO REPAIRS
If you have to claim on your insurance for repairs, keep an eye on where your insurance company sends your car for repairs. Often the repair shop will push for more expensive repairs using more expensive parts. Make sure you state that you do not mind non-OEM parts. These are usually much much cheaper than buying parts from an official manufacturer.
Hopefully, by following these tips, you should be able to save money on your car insurance. By following the above tips and tricks and paying attention, you have a better chance of avoiding the scams that are common in the car insurance industry.
