Halloween in London: London’s Best Halloween Events in 2019

17/10/2019
Louise and a crowd of people sat around a ouija board. The decor around them is dark and gothtic, with burning candles and deep red cocktails.

THE CLASSICS

A special shout out to the classics. You might be a fan of visiting these attractions all year round. Or perhaps one of these historic sites are typically one of those things on your doorstep that you’ve never got around to doing. A visit this month is the perfect opportunity to see some of London’s usual suspects in a new light this Halloween.

GHOST TOURS @ HAMPTON COURT PALACE
For something family-friendly, why not try a visit to Hampton Court Palace? Said to be home to many ghosts – with a mysterious figure being caught on CCTV a few years back – this venue oozes lots of history. Not only is it beautiful to visit during the day, but once more you can also join a ghost tour to learn more about its spooky history. There are both family and adult tours on offer – depending on your fear factor.
An adult ghost tour at Hampton Court Palace costs £27.50 per person and runs from the 31st onwards.

PHOBOPHOBIA – FEAR THE NUMBER 13 @ THE LONDON BRIDGE EXPERIENCE
Last year, I finally got my hands on some tickets to visit The London Bridge Experience at Halloween (I went ON Halloween. For a FIRST DATE) and it did NOT disappoint. The London Bridge Experience is quite scary anyway but the fear is maxed to 100% during their Halloween events. Begin the evening touring through the attraction’s themed rooms – but be prepared to find yourself feeling pretty vulnerable as you crawl, run and push your way through different scenarios – designed to mess with your head and leave you feeling on edge. If you survive – and if you’re brave enough – head downstairs for a unique scare maze like no other. If you want a sneak peak, read my review of last year’s Phobophobia event..!
Fear The Number 13 is running for six nights only this Halloween and tickets start from £31.00 when booked online.

HALLOWEEN GHOST HUNT @ RAGGED SCHOOL
If you like your scares a little more real, why not try a Halloween Ghost Hunt with The Other Side Paranormal Group? This event will take place at Ragged School which is formed of three canalside buildings which once formed the largest “Ragged” or free school in London. There are countless reports of paranormal activity in this truly haunted location in London’s East End – visitors have been touched, chased and screamed at by unseen energies! If you’re brave enough to attend, the evening will consist of paranormal investigations in small, personal groups led by an experienced team (I can vouch for these guys!), activities such as Ouija Boards, Table Tipping, Glass Divination, Seances and hot drinks and light snacks available throughout the night. Oh, and this event takes place on actual Halloween.
The Ragged School Ghost Hunt takes place on the 31st and tickets cost £47.

THE HOME OF HALLOWEEN @ THE LONDON DUNGEON
Known as the Home of Halloween, you can’t go wrong with a visit to The London Dungeon this October. The scare attraction offers nineteen haunted tales and two thrilling rides, plus an exclusive Halloween show for 2019. What is it exactly? It’s all very hush-hush online so you can bet it’s going to be good – and did I mention that the dungeons themselves are actually haunted?! Book your tickets soon to avoid disappointment or check out a review of my recent visit to The London Dungeons.
Tickets for The Home of Halloween start at £24.00 when booked online.

HALLOWEEN @ THE LONDON EYE
Okay, bear with me. Not only are the views spot on all year round (is it wishful thinking that you’ll be able to spot some Christmas lights this early on in the year?) but this October will also see The London Eye getting its Halloween on. Designed with both adults and kids in mind, a brand new 30-minute Halloween experience in one of the London Eye capsules will include an eccentric storyteller revealing four ghostly legends based around London and its history – only the trick is, one of the stories isn’t true – and guests have to guess which! Treats will come in the form of a Hotel Chocolat Halloween goodie bag (yum!) and each experience also includes fast-track entry.
Halloween at The London Eye runs from the 23rd – 31st and tickets cost £35.00 for an adult/child combi ticket.

A bright orange cocktail in a large skull glass. There is a burning slice of fruit on top and some mint. Behind it are the twinkling lights of a Christmas tree in the window.

OFF WITH YOUR HEAD / DANCE TILL YOUR DEAD

Whether you like to dress up as a sexy bunny and dance all night or go overboard on the fake blood and spend your evening partying and getting scared – there’s something for everyone in London this Halloween (and surrounding dates since, y’know, Halloween falls on a Thursday this year). Here are 2019’s best offerings…

SCREAM! HALLOWEEN PARTY – I LOVE THE 90s @ O2 ACADEMY ISLINGTON
Fan of the 90s? Scared of what the future will bring? Head back in time to this unique 90s party where you’ll find scary tunes (Spice Girls, B*Witched etc), scary movies and scary giveaways. Simple. Fancy dress is encouraged – and what’s easier than throwing it back to a 90s pop star (double denim for B*Witched anyone?) and just throwing some fake blood over yourself? Perfect for those of you who always leave costumes till the last minute..Oh and even better? This party takes place the night after Halloween, aka a Friday night…so they’ll be no hangovers at work. I think we can all agree that everyone is far too old for that now.
Scream! Halloween Party – I Love the 90s takes place on the 1st of November and tickets cost a bargain £5.00.

PIRATES OF THE RIVER THAMES – HALLOWEEN BOAT PARTY @ THE DUTCH MASTER BOAT
I’m not sure how risky it might be to get sh*tfaced at a Halloween party on a boat but it sure does sound fun. I mean, essentially it is just a Halloween party: BUT ON A BOAT! The Dutch Master is a three-level boat with a fully stocked bar, electric heaters and a large open deck. Fancy dress is required (so no half-assing it!) and the event also includes free entry into an after-party. Even better: the ship sets sail on two different dates, in case heading to work after an epic Halloween party isn’t quite your thing…
Pirates Of The River Thames takes place on the 26th and the 31st and tickets start from £15.00.

CARNIVALE: THE DARK AND THE DAMNED @ BUNKER 51
This unique night will bring an immersive flair to your partying as guests join Mr Pennywinkle’s circus in an abandoned underground bunker in the heart of London. The evening will offer 20 immersive actors and performers, carnival games, DJs and two scare mazes – plus food will be on offer too. There are only three dates available and you can also check out their twitter for an exclusive VIP ticket for just £30.
Carnivale: The Dark and The Damned takes place on the 31st October and the 1st and 2nd of November. Tickets from £5.

DAY OF THE DEAD: OKTOBERFEST @ DOCK X
For something a little more cultural, try celebrating Day Of The Dead at London Docklands Otkoberfest Beer Hall. Beer and food will be on offer and fancy dress is of course encouraged. Definitely check out the event details for a sneak peek at the classic German sausage food menu ahead of time! This event takes place just after Halloween in case you’re all spooked out and is dubbed to be London’s largest Oktoberfest celebration – but I’ll let you be the judge of that..
Tickets for Day Of The Dead: Oktoberfest takes place on the 2nd of November and start from £17.00.

TRAPPED IN WONDERLAND: HALLOWEEN EXPERIENCE @ INDIGO2
Trapped in Wonderland already boasts three years of sold-out events so if this is your thing, jump on it quickly! This seven-hour extravaganza takes place in a giant 1,800-capacity historic venue and hints at crazy characters, confetti showers, fortune tellers and… doughnut giveaways? Count me in. The event also begins with a Mad Hatter welcome cocktail tea party from 9pm – perfect for any early birds.
Trapped In Wonderland takes place on the 31st and tickets start from £13.05.

A pile of old Halloween movie DVD's is piled up, next to some burning black candles. In front of the candles is a large bowl of popcorn.

QUIRK YOUR HEART OUT

Ah, my speciality – anything oddball, quirky or different! When it comes to Halloween, I always try to pick the weirdest stuff to do, so if you’re anything like me, you’ll love what’s on my list…

BALLIE BALLERSON @ SOHO
I can’t find too much information about this online but Halloween or not: this venue is a lot of fun. The latest venue has opened in Shoreditch and offers two ball pits this time around, themed cocktails, food, entertainment and DJs. For Halloween, they’ve got face painting, ghostly giveaways, a blood-red ball pit and something else special on Halloween weekend – but they’re not revealing what!
Ballie Ballerson tickets start from £7.50 and their Halloween events take place from the 31st October – 2nd November.

ESCAPE ZOMBIES @ VARIANT 31
If you want a real immersive experience, I’d suggest getting up close (or rather avoid getting up close!) and personal with zombies in Variant 31’s engaging zombie-experience-meets-horror-game. I won’t reveal too much because the unique experience has already been on everybody’s lips so you probably know all about it, but you can read my personal review of my recent visit here.
Tickets for Variant 31 start from £39.00.

HALLOWEEN ON ICE @ TOBACCO DOCK
Get your skates on and celebrate Tobacco Dock’s launch of their winter season with an epic Halloween party. Skate alongside igloos and cosy huts (available, alongside the ice skating rink, all winter) with two Halloween themed ice performances, trick or treat locations for free candy, spooky Halloween games and a Halloween costume contest, DJs all night long and a free drink upon arrival. Better yet? Tickets only cost £5.00.
Halloween On Ice takes place on the 31st and tickets cost £5.00.

THAMES THRILLER @ LONDON EYE MILLENNIUM PIER
Head to the seas (sort of) for this unique three-in-one gothic (their words, not mine – but I dig the gothic vibe) Halloween experience. The evening will begin with a 50-minute guided tour/speed experience along the Thames, where you’ll hear all about London’s spooky history and spot up to 25 landmarks. Next, you’ll warm up with a Hot Toddy on board for a (somewhat) more relaxing ride..before heading back to land for a haunted walking tour. The evening will end in a traditional and quirky pub to settle your nerves!
Thames Thriller runs for one night only on the 31st and tickets cost start at £59.95.

HAUNTED @ THE MEDIEVAL BANQUET
If you’re a foodie, you’re going to want to book this! The Medieval Banquet are putting on special spooky evenings this October. It’s dubbed to be the perfect location for witches, warlocks, zombies, werewolves and evil jesters and the evening consists of a four-course feast, wine and ale, a scary interactive show and a disco until late. The only problem? Trying to find an outfit that’s both scary and Medieval.
Haunted evenings at The Medieval Banquet run from the 25th and cost £30.00 when booked online – or book via Design My Night to grab some discount codes.

SILENCE @ COLAB FACTORY
As always, I don’t know too much about Colab Factory’s latest offering for Halloween – but I do know it’s going to be creepy and awesome. This immersive experience meet escape room will be based around the mystery of a hideous murder and guests will be required to piece together parts of the curious puzzle, armed only with their wits, a ritual and a babbling priest to stop a demon. The mention of the word demon is enough to put me on edge. The less you know the better, but you can read my experience of last year’s event here – trust me, it’s worth attending.
Silence takes place from the 23rd and tickets start at £15.00.

LASER TAG NIGHTS @ STAR COMMAND: THE OUTPOST
Laser Tag people! What could be better than a throwback game of Laser Tag? A Halloween-themed game, of course! Games booked on Friday and Saturday nights in October will be played against a backdrop of horror music…and that’s all I got. But it sounds super fun, right?!
Tickets for Laser Tag Nights start at £13.00.
Tickets for The Home of Halloween start at £24.00 when booked online.

ESCAPE POPPA PLOCK @ HANDMADE MYSTERIES
For one of the best escape rooms around, Handmade Mysteries is perfect for Halloween. They offer three different escape rooms around London & Brighton (Lady Chastity’s Reserve, Poppa Plock’s Wonky Workshop and Operation Mindfall) but I can personally vouch that Poppa Plock’s Wonky Workshop is a lot of creepy fun – and I’ve no doubt the other two rooms are just the same. If you want some tame but challenging fun this Halloween, an escape room may be just the ticket. Plus Poppa Plock’s Wonky Workshop is right next to a really cool buzzing pub for drinks before or after.
Handmade Mysteries have three different rooms and various dates available – tickets depend on how many players you’re booking.

FRIGHT NIGHT @ THE LONDON BAR BUS
Wanna just get drunk whilst getting scared silly? The London Bar Bus is the answer. The 90-minute tour will take you past some of London’s biggest landmarks whilst you learn about the capital’s creepy history such as a vampire terrorizing Piccadilly Circus or a terrifying Black Dog that haunts St Pauls. Oh and it’s a bar. On a boat. But remember to book your drinks package ahead of time…
The London Bar Bus Fright Night’s take place on various dates from the 24th and tickets start at £15.00.

So there we have it – a whopping nineteen awesome Halloween events taking place in London this year – and that’s just to begin with! This is just my first draft of picks so make sure you check back here and on my Facebook and Twitter for events continually added!

What are you doing for Halloween? What’s your top pick from my guide? Let me know!
