5 Seriously Spooky Things to Do in America

The famous all black witches house in Salem

Continuing on with the spooky content today I am blogging about 5 seriously spooky things to do in America. I understand that America is a massive place and that I should stick to one state or something. But as someone from the UK, there’s nothing wrong with casting a wider net!

I would absolutely love to visit America over Halloween one year. Not only are there so many genuinely scary/haunted places, but people go all out for Halloween. I want to see houses decorated, take part in trick or treating (surely it’s not just for kids over there?!) and take an epic autumn/winter road trip.

Here’s my pick of five spooky things I’d love to do in America.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really had much interest in Salem before. In all honesty, I didn’t think it seemed that spooky! But after doing my research, my mind has changed. Perhaps it’s because I never really learned about the history about it or now I’ve seen so many beautiful photos. Being that it’s where the Salem Witch Trials took place, Salem gets super busy over Halloween – but the town itself is wonderful to visit all year round if you want to avoid the crowds. ‘Attractions’ include The Salem Witch Museum, Gallow’s Hill Museum and The Witch House.

There are also ghost walks and many more events running throughout the whole month of October. Plus did I mention just how beautiful Salem is?!

If you’ve got any blog posts relating to Salem, please hit me up and drop your links below! I had loads saved before my Bloglovin’ account suddenly decided to delete itself and now I can’t find the original posts I read anywhere.

I didn’t really want to mention or focus on any full-on scare attractions in this post. Especially as I did a full post about America’s best scare attractions a few years back. But an entire Halloween theme park? I have to mention! This theme park – the largest Halloween theme park in America – boasts FIVE haunted houses, scary-oake, live entertainment, pubs (which you’ll need!), a food court and much more.

I’m kind of over the whole dressing nice but scary and getting drunk and partying for Halloween thing now. but New Orleans is meant to be one of the best places in the world to party, so I’ll make an exception. Second only to Mardi Gras for its dazzling display of fun and finery, you can expect street parties, Halloween shows and lots of amazing entertainment. Oh and if partying isn’t actually your thing, New Orleans has still got you covered. The city’s rich history means it’s full of haunted houses, scream parks and genuine Voodoo Shops. There’s something for everyone: partying, jump scares and real haunted history.

It wasn’t until I actually went here that I realized just how unique and creepy this place is. Beforehand, I just thought it was a very commercialised tourist attraction for fans of Ghost Adventures. Oh how wrong I was. Not only did I have my own weird experience when visiting but for anyone who loves genuine horror over jump shares or commercialised horror, it’s definitely worth visiting.

The museum houses tons of haunted artefacts and every room has it’s own spooky theme, dripping with history to learn. Do note, however, that it can be a long wait to get inside at peak times. And even more so at Halloween. Oh, and did I mention you have to sign a waiver before you enter? It basically states that you won’t sue if you get hurt, possessed or end up killing someone due to possession! Yeah. Tthis isn’t for the faint-hearted.

It may be a little commercial, but it sure is scary. I’ve always wanted to visit Universal Studios for their annual Halloween Horror Nights because it looks simply amazing. The park/event boasts ten horrifying haunted houses, five pulse-pounding scare zones, rides and attractions (it’s still a theme park at the end of the day so with the usual rides you get double the fun!) and entertainment. Plus new themes are announced every year – 2019’s theme is Stranger Things.

Have you ever visited America over Halloween? My dream would be to do an autumn/winter road trip and visit all of the above – do you think it’s doable? Let me know!
