Cheer up Chuck: the cold weather can bring on a plethora of emotions but here are five (little) things that have made me happy this month.
October has been a month full of ups and downs so far but when I sat down and read this lovely post from a favourite blogger of mine – From Roses – I actually realised despite a few little setbacks, I’m pretty damn happy at this moment in time.
And so, inspired, I began to write this post almost immediately. Full disclosure: I have taken complete inspiration from Rebecca’s post – I don’t claim for any of this content to be my own idea and just thought it was a lovely post I’d like to follow up with – I hope that’s okay. And whilst you’re here – do check out her blog. It’s awesome.
Blogging
So blogging as regularly as I should have has fallen off the radar a little bit – but not without good reasons. As well as taking on lots of freelance work, I’ve been taking time to focus on my blog behind the scenes. I’ve been taking part in SEO and Pinterest courses, giving myself a new little logo and brainstorming new ideas. I’ve also tried to focus my instagram more and have been approaching brands about collaborations. I know the heart of blogging is the writing – which is hard when I haven’t had much time lately – but knowing that I’m still moving forward with the blog is important. I have so much inspiration and drive for it right now – although it might not be seen just by looking at my blog – I’m glad I’m only gaining more and more motivation for it all.
Freelancing
I’ve got myself one or two little freelance jobs at the moment which have been really helpful due to my car failing its MOT and me being without a car! Right now, it’s something I am enjoying pushing myself with and yes, it’s a little bit of extra cash too, but it’s all (hopefully) moving forward to a time when I can do freelancing full time.
Love
This time last year, I was still suffering over a really sh*tty break-up and wasn’t in a great place at all because of it. Seriously, looking back now I actually laugh at how dramatic I was about it all. A year on and a lot of faffing about and I am in a new relationship. I am so surprised. I am generally a single person – I have relationships, sure, but only one or two short serious ones. Before my ex, I was single for five years (which I did enjoy to be fair). So after such a dramatic breakup, I really wasn’t expecting to be in a relationship again so soon. I don’t think my boyfriend was either, being that he spent the first four months of us dating insisting that he wanted to be single and we were just dating and nothing more!
But to the point…being with my boyfriend is something that makes me really happy right now. Since my car failed it’s MOT, he’s been a godsend – practically letting me move in with him, driving me to work and essentially just being awesome. He’s awesome. So awesome. He’s so patient and understanding and really lets me be myself around him without any judgement whatsoever – and I know I’m not the easiest person to love. Our goals complement each other’s so well – and we’re always pushing each other and cheering each other on to help reach those goals – and it’s just really nice feeling so loved again.
Autumn
Yes, it’s bloody cold, but I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am to be wearing oversized jumpers again and cosy boots. I love autumn and I love winter. Halloween is just around the corner (if you’re still without plans, do check out my guide!), then it’s Bonfire Night (fireworks, whoop!), my 30th birthday (help me) and Christmas. Plus lot’s of cool seasonal things to do. Give me all the mulled wine.
Family
It’s only since I’ve practically moved in with my boyfriend have I realised just how much I miss seeing my family. When you live at home, you take seeing your family for granted – I’d often come home tired, have a nap, spend an hour with them at dinnertime then retreat to my room. There’s something real bittersweet about driving from Milton Keynes all the way back to Luton once a week now for dinner and a catch-up. It’s so nice to make an effort to spend genuine time with them. I’ve also seen a lot more of my sister and my niece recently – even something as simple as just heading into town for a coffee (babychino for Ella!) and spending some time with them really made my day.
Sometimes it really is just the small things or little achievements that have the biggest effect on your mood. October has been tough on me so far – not having a car and constantly worrying about how I’m going to be able to afford a new one has been a big issue, as has finding my feet with scheduling my time better with freelancing. Oh and let’s not forget that I had to spend an entire week off work last week because I slept funny and somehow pulled a muscle in my neck and COULDN’T EVEN TURN LEFT without bursting into tears because of the pain. Hey, I did say I was dramatic…And yet, I’m still quite happy!
What things have made you happy this month? Let me know!
