Looking for fun date nights at home? Why not try Box42’s unique, convenient and affordable date night subscription box? Here’s what we thought of their Witchcraft and Wizardry Date Experience…
When you’re in a relationship, finding time to experience date nights at home is just as important as going ‘out’ for a date in my opinion. After years together, many couples struggle to find unique date ideas and regularly heading out for a movie or dinner can be an expensive habit that adds up.
This is why I was so excited to discover Box42, an independent business that designs and packages unforgettable date nights every month. For just £31.99, couples can get a date box delivered to their door every month with no set-up, no extra fees and no worrying about unique date ideas!
When the team at Box42 got in touch to ask if my partner and I would like to review their Halloween special Witchcraft and Wizardry Date Experience – just in time for Halloween – I was over the moon!
I spent a lot of time during last year’s lockdown trying to come up with and create fun date ideas for my boyfriend and I when regular dates were off the cards and still do now, especially when wanting to save money, so I knew immediately that this was a great concept I’d love.
Perfect for a magical evening of potions and quests, the Witchcraft and Wizardry Date Experience is perfect for date nights at home.

Experiencing Box42’s Witchcraft and Wizardry Date box for a date night at home
My boyfriend and I were kindly gifted Box42’s magical Witchcraft and Wizardry Date Experience to enjoy at home and share our thoughts. As someone who loves anything spooky and magical, I was very excited! My boyfriend is kind of indifferent about these types of things – he doesn’t enjoy ‘forced fun’ (as he puts it), but he’s more than happy to try out these types of things to make me happy as he ‘likes seeing me excited about things’ (n’aww) and tends to enjoy them once he gets into it anyway.
Opening the box itself was very exciting – it was packaged beautifully with shredded black tissue paper spilling out and lots of elements of purple, silver and gold – fitting in perfectly with the theme. The date experience itself took minimal set up but I thoroughly enjoyed this part, with props such as a candle, mini cauldrons and fake spiders web to help set the scene.

Obviously, I’m not going to go into exact detail about everything the date included as I don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone wishing to experience this subscription box themselves, but broadly speaking, activities included duo divination, a magic masterclass, potions and popcorn and crystal growing!
I choose to make the main course of their suggested accompanying menu, which was stuffed pepper cauldrons (peppers stuffed with a tasty garlic, rice and onion filling) – it was delicious! Luckily I had many of the ingredients around the house already, so just had to pop to the shop to get a few bits. But as I said – this menu is optional and not required as part of your date – so if you wish to save time, money and set up, you can skip this altogether.
Once we’d made our yummy colour changing potion (thanks to Long Tail Mixers), we got started. I’d also like to add here that later on we also made some delicious purple pumpkin popcorn puffs from ZaraMara. Both are two small businesses – we love to see the support!

The date lasted around three hours altogether, which if you ask me, is amazing it was all from a single box! The date night experience included everything we could possibly need and it’s clear to see that the team put a lot of thought and effort into all the small things that make date nights so special, from a curated playlist to the ‘instruction’ booklets that explained each step so thoroughly.
We particularly loved the cocktail making and the divination tasks that were so hands-on. It was something entirely new to both of us so really fun to experience and learn together.
We did, however, find it absolutely hilarious when we got a less-than-positive result to our tarot reading! Seeking guidance on our relationship for fun, as my boyfriend could not think of anything else on the spot, I revealed his cards and their meanings:
The Tower: The Tower is commonly interpreted as meaning danger, crises and liberation. It is associated with sudden unforeseen change.
The High Priestess: This card suggests that it is time to retreat and reflect upon the situation and trust your inner instincts to guide you through it.
The Lovers: The Lovers represent relationships and choices. It indicates some decision about an existing relationship, a temptation of the heart or a choice of potential patterns or an existing relationship issue.
If that isn’t telling us we need to break up, I don’t know what is!
Thankfully it’s just a bit of fun (not tarot reading overall but in this particular situation) and I’m pleased to say we are still together. It was absolutely hilarious though.
I also particularly liked the suggested movies to watch after the date had concluded.

We both really enjoyed this date box and loved how fun it was. I think it’s so, so easy sometimes to forget date nights – especially date nights at home – and how important they are to spend some genuine time together and have a romantic experience. I loved that each individual activity was fun and something we could do together – and we enjoyed them all. We felt the date was a little rushed on our side as my boyfriend didn’t arrive back from work until after 8pm, but I think if we’d had the entire evening, we would have been able to spread it out a lot more and enjoy each activity (and the tasty cocktails) for longer.
It was so nice doing something a bit different and even setting up the scene was a nice experience in itself. Although it was just a date night at home, I still put on a pretty dress and did my makeup to make it all that bit more enjoyable.
What’s better yet is that everything that arrived in the box is ours to keep. We can relive some of the activities, listen to the playlist whenever we want and even practice our magic tricks. I think we might stay away from the tarot cards for now though…at least until we have more practice!
