4 Things I’ve Been Binge Watching (On Amazon Prime) Lately

12/02/2020
Netflix is open on a small laptop screen with a variety of shows on display. Beside the laptop is a paper mache skull with hot pink sequins stuck to it.

Do you know what one of the best things about having your own place is? Being able to watch what you want whenever you want!

I am a diehard Netflix fan and occasionally find myself using my Dad’s NOWTV. But I recently signed up for a free trial of Amazon Prime (to order some things that I needed urgently..before realizing they weren’t even eligible for Amazon Prime delivery, such a fail lol) and I feel like I have the world at my fingertips! Okay, so that’s a bit of an overstatement.. But being able to spend weekends just lazing about at home now means I’ve been discovering (and rediscovering) lots of new TV shows. I’ve also bought a Chome Cast for the house too so we can watch all the latest movies!

The Boys

I can’t believe how long it’s taken me to watch The Boys. But I’m so glad I finally got around to it. Again, it’s one show I just put on in the background one day then actually really liked it. I put it on again for my boyfriend and paid attention this time, and soon we were addicts. The Boys is a show that really surprised me – it wasn’t like I expected it to be at all. It’s focused around seven superheroes who are manufactured by the media. Even down to stopping crime being planned ahead of time by how many likes they’ll get on social media. Which I think is a really interesting take on it all.

They’re also total d*cks – for the most part. The title of the show actually refers to a small group of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher – played by Karl Urban with the best British accent. Seriously. I’ve developed a huge crush on him! Who fight back against the heroes that abuse their power. It’s dark, witty and has its fair share of gore. If you like your superhero shows a little gritter, you’ll love this. Of course, it’s based on a comic book too!

Zombieland: Double Tap

I know this isn’t a show so I can’t ‘binge’ it, but we finally watched Zombieland: Double Tap yesterday. It was worth the wait. I really liked Zombieland (the first one) but honestly thought it was a little overrated. So I wasn’t in a massive rush to watch the sequel. However, maybe it was because I didn’t expect much going into watching the sequel but I thought it was amazing! It was genuinely really funny, and I really liked the hidden ‘links’ to the previous movie. If you’re after something that’s easy watching – but hilarious too – give this a go.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I can’t begin to tell you how happy I was to find the full series of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Amazon Prime. Or Supernatural. Or Parks and Rec. Basically I’ve got a lot of TV to watch. My boyfriend and I are currently throwing it back by re-watching all of Buffy. It’s practically one of the best teen/vampire shows from the 90s. I still remember when growing up, my brother and I would watch episodes weekly with a Domino’s Pizza – it was our tradition! Though parts of it are dated now – and corny – it certainly doesn’t lose its charm. Watching it again as an adult makes me appreciate the real gems behind the show. Like how the vampires looked genuinely really scary thanks to amazing prosthetic makeup – and Willow’s fashion sense! Plus did you know it all continued as a comic once the series ended?!

The Office US

This is probably my fifth viewing of The Office US but I also haven’t seen it in years. I tend to throw this on in the background when I’m cooking or blogging as I’ve seen the earlier seasons so many times now, but I used to watch the series on DVD and only had up to the fifth season or something like that. I have seen the last few seasons, but only once. So I’m excited to get stuck into that again. The Office US is a no-brainer – it’s a comedy show that offers a bit of everything and all the characters are totally lovable – even if you do struggle to like Michael at first. I almost didn’t watch past the first two or three episodes as he annoyed me so much but it’s worth sticking with – trust me.

Other notable shoutouts include American Horror Story – I am way behind and am slowly, slowly making my way through Roanoke – it’s one of the slowest seasons yet but I’m determined to stick to it! I’m also starting Parcs and Rec once more (I’ve tried a few times in the past but never got further than the second season) and I’ve just finished Unbelievable too, which was very gripping.

What shows have you been binging lately? Let me know!
