So, Halloween is officially cancelled. At least in terms of having a party, trick or treating or going to any scare attractions..but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate at home as a giant f*ck you to Covid-19, right?! In fact the idea of staying in the warmth and getting spooky with lots of snacks sounds kind of perfect this year – hence why I’m bringing you my list of 31 Scary Movies to Watch this October (on Netflix).
That’s one for every day of the month.
From the corny teen slasher (Freddy VS Jason – watch this one whilst having a drink!) to the real spine tingling scares (Hereditary) – I’ve tried to include a real mix on this list. It even includes Krampus, which is technically a Christmas comedy horror film – but still totally weird (and is actually based on a creature from Central European folklore – it’s worth reading up on this back history).
Unfortunately I couldn’t include include all of my favourite horror movies as a) there’s only 31 days in October and b) I’m focusing on what can be found on Netflix since, y’know, pretty much everyone has Netflix.
But if there’s any I’ve missed off that you think simply MUST be on the list, feel free to drop a comment below. Also: why not consider condensing some of the movies into a marathon – like the three Insidious movies one night!
I’d also like to note that A Nightmare on Elm Street is the 2010 reboot. I have mixed thoughts on this. I do love it, I think it deserves a place in modern horror and really love the special effects in it – as well as the way they’ve made the character of Freddy Krueger darker and scarier. However, in the original, it was his almost comic-like attitude that made the first few films work so well. I would personally watch the original before the remake on Netflix (if you can) then I’ll leave you to decide which is best out of the two.
