Whilst everyone is baking banana bread or doing lots of at home workouts, some of us are still lazy! here’s a typical day in lockdown for me.
I’d love to share with you everything I’ve been up to this month in my monthly series. But to be honest with you, I’ve mostly sat on my ass this month! I’ve gone from feeling super motivated some days and doing so much, to spending days lazing about, watching Netflix and gaming.
But who can blame me in a situation like this?
It’s hard to not feel guilty for spending your time better. Especially when everyone on Twitter is baking amazing banana bread, all your Facebook friends are becoming super mindful and everyone and their dog on Instagram are running 5k for charity. Lolz. I could not run 5k. Please don’t vote me to.
So I thought I’d share what a typical day in lockdown looks like for me. I’ve now been furloughed, so have lots of time to fill up!

7:15am
Most days, my boyfriend wakes up and heads to work at 7:15am. Most days I swear I’ll get up with him, have a cup of tea and start my day early. In reality, I call out a croaky goodbye and later text him and moan at him if he forgets to run upstairs for a goodbye kiss before he leaves. Thankfully he remembers nine times out of ten.
10am
My alarm goes off at 8am. I snooze till 9am and usually spend an hour just mooching in bed, scrolling through social media. I try to get up at 9am but reason with myself that 10am is just the right time in a situation like this. It’s early enough to be considered as somewhat not lazy, but late enough that you get an enjoyable lay-in.
I try to do a short morning meditation session too.
I get up and throw on a pair of jeans and a random top. Usually, it’s an oversized jumper for comfort and because the house is often cold. But after sorting out my summer wardrobe lately, I’m trying to wear nicer stuff. At least during the week. Surprisingly, I always manage to get changed out of my pyjamas. This is super important for a routine. But as I’m not even WFH anymore, I haven’t really stuck to a routine. So I’m proud of myself for not giving in and staying in jammies all day! I don’t bother with makeup at the moment unless I really need a boost. My skin is certainly less spotty, but it’s kind of dull at the moment too as I’ve not been drinking much water.
11am
I have breakfast (usually pate or avo on toast) and settle at my desk. Then I go through emails, plan some social media and then inevitably end up either playing The Sims for a couple of hours or retreating to the sofa to play Stardew Valley on my phone. I swear to myself that I’ll go for a run later, and it tends to hang over me until that time.
12pm
I realise wearing jeans is far too ‘out there’ when I’m not even leaving the house today. What’s the point? It’s even gotten to the point where even just a bit of mascara feels like way too much when we pop to ALDI! I go upstairs and change into something a lot more lazy – either black leggings with a big jumper (at least I look partly put together), or my jazzy ‘plane pants’ with a jumper which is a little comfier but makes me look like a total tit. I congratulate myself for lasting at least two hours in jeans.
See above for what I’m wearing today – and laugh at my jazzy plane pants. Usually I keep these just for travelling, but I’m getting so much use out of them recently…!
I usually quickly type up and throw out a blog post around about this time too. I swore I’d have at least a week’s worth of blog posts planned in advance, but this never happens.
1pm
Lunchtime! Lunch is either a pot noodle or some sort of cuppa soup. Or, if I’ve had a particularly extended lay in (tends to be on a weekend – although what even is a weekend anymore?), I skip breakfast and just have avo on toast for lunch instead. I’ve recently discovered that mashing it up just a little with a drizzle of olive oil is miles better than just squeezing some lemon juice over it.
After lunch, I can no longer stand to look at last nights washing up so begrudgingly get on with it – usually with an upbeat playlist to match.
2pm
I tend to feel a lot more motivated in the afternoon. Maybe it’s because I’ve had lunch or because I’ve had a slow start to the day just mooching about and gaming. So usually I tend to do a bit more house work – tidying everywhere, doing the washing etc then sitting down on the sofa to do something creative. I put something on in the background – Schitt’s Creek if I have a short attention span or The Vampire Diaries if I want to pay attention a little. TVD used to be a favourite show of mine but it got kinda slow in the later seasons, so I never finished it. This time around I’m determined to watch it until the finale. I also lust over Enzo. Once I’ve got the entertainment sorted, I either do cross stitch or paint some Warhammer. I spend maybe two or three hours doing this.
Sometimes, by now, I’ll crack open a bottle of wine if we have some in the house because why the eff not? I don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow..!
Some days, I make it outside for a run (aka a slow, slow jog and power walk). I don’t do this everyday (as if I could). But I aim to do it every other day, but overall I’m happy if I at least do it once a week. I also do yoga some mornings and workout classes with Caroline, so at least I’m still moving.
5pm
I take a break from the sofa and usually around about this time, I feel more motivated to be productive ‘online’. On any given day, I either do some blog maintenance or continue Lyrical Host’s Navigating SEO course. I also make a conscious effort to scroll through Bloglovin’ and properly read blog posts – commenting where I can. Often, when it comes to blogging, I focus on writing my own blog and forget that it’s a community and that I actually enjoy reading other blogs. I also put some work into my Pinterest around about this time. Up until recently, I’d plan ahead with my Instagram feed using Planoly, but with no new content to post, I’ve fallen behind. There’s only so many throwback photos of America you can share…
7:30pm
My boyfriend finishes work at eight, getting in around quarter past than taking some time to unwind. He usually has a bath, so at half sevenish, I settle down for the evening too. Lately, I’ve been watching Noughts and Crosses because I loved the book – it’s one of my all-time favourites. By the time 7pm hits, I’m also quite bored of being home alone and looking forward to seeing my boyfriend again. So I put down my phone and pay full attention to the TV until he’s home.
8:45pm
We cook dinner with Gousto – we tend to cook dinner together some nights but it varies. If it’s his third day on the row of working 12-hour shifts and his last day of working before a day off, I tend to take over cause I know he’s super tired and exhausted. If he’s not working, sometimes he’ll cook. Our kitchen has a little open nook between the kitchen and living room, so we usually put on The Office US, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or Made in Chelsea in the background whilst we cook. After the last episode of MIC, he finally admits to me that he’s kind of getting into it, which is a win in my eyes. I only really watch because it’s got an ace soundtrack and cool locations in London, but it’s so easy to get dragged into their lives.
Because we have dinner quite late, we just tend to chill after dinner and switch off.
In Conclusion
For me, all the days are blending into one. When my boyfriend is at work, I sometimes have days where I’m really productive, so that when he’s home we can just chill and enjoy our days together. However, he’s an early riser, so naturally we get up earlier on his days off and I somehow end up getting more done in terms of blogging or housework.
I just try to take each day as it comes. I’ve been thinking for a while now that I’ve been wasting a lot of my time, but reading back through this post has made me realise I still get quite a bit done: nearly every single day I do something productive or creative, I work out at least 2-3 times a week and even a short 15 minute meditation session each day is really, really good for me, even if 15 minutes doesn’t sound like much!
If you’re feeling a bit lost: don’t worry. Don’t compare yourself to others. Even just doing one thing a day is beneficial. And perhaps try writing a blog post about it too – you’ll soon learn to celebrate your small successes and perhaps notice what needs to be changed!
What does a typical day in lockdown look like for you?
