If you have the motivation to learn right now, here are 3 free (and 2 not free!) digital marketing online courses to take during quarantine.
If you have the motivation to learn – and that’s a big if, as I know not everyone is feeling up to doing much currently – this is the time to knuckle down. There’s plenty of time to put an hour aside each day – or a few hours each week – and dedicate them to learning.
I’ve found late afternoons to be the best time to learn for me – on a good day, I’ve gotten all my social media, blogging and house tidying out of the way and have more of a clear mind.
I thought it would be good to share what courses I’ve been doing and am about to begin – three free courses and two not free.
FREE | Google Analytics Academy
Although not everyone uses Google Analytics, it’s still considered as one of the most used platforms when it comes to analyzing blog stats. When companies ask for further information or stats, GA is the most reliable way to share them. So this course is extremely useful. Not only does it look great on your CV (and you do get a certificate of completion at the end), but it’s also essential for understanding your blog stats better. Technically there are seven courses currently available at Google Analytics Academy, but Google Analytics for Beginners is (obviously) the best place to start. This will teach you the basic features of GA, including how to create an account, implement tracking codes, analyze basic reports and set up goals and campaign tracking. If you’re going to pick up the courses on this list, I’d recommend beginning with Google Analytics for Beginners.
PAY FOR | Lyrical Host’s Navigating SEO Course
I’ve mentioned Lyrical Host’s Navigating SEO Course so many times before and I cannot stress enough how beneficial this course is. Apart from GA, this course I have probably learned the most from so far. It’s a very comprehensive course but easily understood too. It includes plenty of downloads and real-time tasks you can do on your blog, plus a nifty little note system whilst you’re reading through. Lyrical Host also has a Facebook group and a ticket system if you’re struggling – Jenni and Joseph will get back to you almost immediately. I’ve recently learned a lot more about the use of keywords in different heading sizes and researching into keywords before beginning a blog post. It’s very hands-on and very, very useful for making your blog more SEO-friendly.
The course costs £80, but as someone who is usually wary of paying for blogging courses, admittedly I felt it was well worth the cost. You can read my full review of the course (and why I think it’s worth the price tag) here. They often do discounts for the course, so keep your eye out!
FREE | Canva Design School
I really love Canva – it’s the perfect alternative to more expensive design programs and is ideal for beginners in design like me. Canva Design School offers easy to follow videos on how to use Canva, design tips and how to use Canva to help with branding. It’s simple to follow but will really help you get the most use out of Canva. I also like their Twitter profile, where they often share bite-sized tips about design in general.
PAY FOR | The Sunday Wave’s Personal Development Digital Planner
This one isn’t strictly related to blogging, but having seen Cade Lauren share lots of the planning process into this course/planner on Instagram, I simply have to mention it because looking after your personal development is super important – especially during a time like this! The Personal Development Digital Planner helps you plan ahead – for personal goals, blogging tasks and check-ins on your mental health. For only £12, it’s well worth parting with your money even if this is the only course you participate in from this blog post. Looking after your own mental health is essential right now. However, do check out the other workbooks on offer – both the self-loving interactive workbook and the glorious goal setting workbook also sound quite beneficial. You can choose more than one course in a bundle too.
FREE | Moz’s Keyword Research
Although the topic of keywords is covered quite extensively in Lyrical Host’s Navigating SEO course, Navigating SEO explains how important it is to try different sources when researching keywords too – especially to get a second opinion. Moz’s Keyword Research is a great add-on to Navigating SEO, or maybe worth taking if essentially you don’t want to overwhelm yourself and only want to learn about keywords. Luckily, there are a few more courses free with Moz at the moment – all related to SEO. To achieve the courses free of charge, simply pick what course(s), add them to your basket and enter the code ‘wegotthis’ at checkout. Please note, the courses are only free until 31st May – so act quickly with this one! Moz have now extended their free courses until September!
